Our Process

Film photography (analog photography) combines art and chemistry in its imaging workflow. The silver halides crystals used in film has been tried and tested for over a hundred years. Scanned at high resolution, film has a quality of its own. Film has a distinctive look that sets it apart from its digital counterpart.

The prints available at JA shutter are captured on photographic film. The films are specially selected and carefully hand developed to ensure consistency and quality. By moving development in-house, we are able to avoid scratches that can ruin priceless shots. After development, the film is scanned at high resolution to draw out the unique and intricate details of the image.  The beautiful image is then printed on high gloss paper to display its color, vibrancy, highlights, and dynamic range. During development, the film is only minimally processed. There is no photoshopping, nor post-scan editing. The images are to merely represent the moment and emotion of the scene that was captured. With moments captured on film, you know careful thought was taken.
